I got a Kindle for Christmas.
« on: January 13, 2013, 05:00:51 PM »
I got a black & white kindle for Christmas, and IMSHO its cool. I went to the local library and found some websites that offer 'classic' books that are public domain. I downloaded almost 50 books and have a nice bunch to read, plus I had purchased an e-book bundle from the humble bundle and got 2 Penny Arcade books in it.

I'm slowly learning how to use the Kindle, but its nice to know I can still grow a bit even after college. I guess I won't be buying books for a while as what I have should keep me occupied for months easily.

I was wondering what other people's thoughts were about e-books. Living in a cramped efficiency apartment, its nice to have the ability to access hundreds of books on an e-book that is smaller than an individual book.

-Dreams of getting a new Wii U in 201x.
-Current consoles:Wii, PS2, XBOX 360, also has DS/GBA, Vita 2xxx, and a PSP 3000

Yes, I like buying games cheap, don't like it? Deal with it!

I have a Nook color and they're the superior e-book reader.

I love my Kindle. When I'm reading heavily, it's the ONLY way to read comfortably. I have a tablet, the Nexus 10, which is the highest resolution available in a tablet (yes, Apple, it beast out the Retina Display iPad), and the Kindle is still a better way to read.

You'll find yourself reading quite a bit more now that you have that Kindle.

While I appreciate that a black & white Kindle isn't the best EBook reader out there, its my first EBook reader and a gift as well.

I'm sure someday I will get another EBook reader and only God knows what that will be. I never knew which computer would replace the previous one I owned, never had an idea which vehicle would replace the previous one I owned, and I never thought I'd own a Nintendo 64, Gamecube, or Wii.

I'm thrilled I'm learning in the process of owning it, and living in a cramped efficiency apartment gives me the ability to use less space and still have a good amount of reading material.

I plan on taking it with me when I go laundry and when I take Charline to her doctors appointments as well. It will be a nice tool to own.

For just reading, I don't think there's a better reader than the Kindle. I've tried many different ones, and it's the best out there. Obviously it's just for reading, but that's fine.

I started reading "Alice in Wonderland" while doing some laundry. I'm still learning the basics, but I like it. I have nearly 50 books to start with from the free classics I downloaded.

I'm also reading a "real" book, Dr. Phil "Self Matters" although its a tough read and I'm only 90 pages into it. I read about 20 pages a day, its been a tough read for me.

I'm trying to read a "real" book and a "digital" book at the same time.

I finished reading Alice in Wonderland on the Kindle. It was a silly book, but sometimes its good to read silly books. I started Reading H.G. Wells First Man on the Moon.

If you like adventure stuff (indiana jones, but modern) in the classic serial novel style of the 30s/40s look up the faux author titled 'Gabriel Hunt' books (5 or 6 of them.)  They're cheap and the stories are damned amusing.
