Does popularity make something 'great?'
« on: April 29, 2014, 01:47:47 PM »
Often when I look at the popular culture and what the masses like, I disagree.
To me Titanic was  a mediocre movie I don't care to watch again. I never watched Avatior.
Don't get me wrong, it doesn't bother me that people like stuff I don't, but just because a bunch of people like something doesn't make it great, IMSHO.
I like Rocketeer, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, The Phantom, 13th Floor, The Shadow, movies that didn't even break even at the Theaters.
Its fine they aren't well received, I like what I like, but just because they didn't make $1 billion doesn't mean they're bad either IMSHO.
Just because the 'reboot' of Tomb Raider didn't make enough sales doesn't mean its bad. I like it better than the previous Tomb Raider.
Even though I can't finish Bioshock Infinite (because I suck at it?) and feminists get their panties in a bundle over the game, I like it.
There are popular songs, movies, video games, and books I like, but not because they're popular.
-PC: AMD Quad Core A8-3800 Accelerated Processor, 16GB DDR3 Ram, Radeon HD45xx 1 GB video card, 1 TB hard drive, 500 GB hard drive, Supermulti DVD Burner, Wireless Lan 802.11 b/g/n, Beats audio Studio Quality sound, Win 7 Home Premium

-Dreams of getting a new Wii U in 201x.
-Current consoles:Wii, PS2, XBOX 360, also has DS/GBA, Vita 2xxx, and a PSP 3000

Yes, I like buying games cheap, don't like it? Deal with it!

Not really. Miley Cyrus is popular and so is The Biebs, does that make them great? NOPE!
